What is DSL?
PDF Print E-mail

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a family of technologies that all make use of the telephone local loop to provide fast digital access to data networks. Traditionally only a small portion of the capacity of this copper loop has been used to carry a single telephone conversation; but with DSL it is possible to carry high-speed data for Internet or Intranet access – and still have one or more telephone connections in use at the same time. DSL modems use digital coding techniques to squeeze up to 99% more capacity out of a phone line without interfering with your regular phone services. That means you could be simultaneously talking on the phone or sending a fax - while surfing the World Wide Web.
